I imagine Swedish wouldn't have been to difficult for a German speaker given similarities in some grammatical structures and vocabulary (maybe with some different spellings). I commend you for also wanting to learn Finnish! I had a prof whose cousin lived in Finland for ten years and still never learned it. It's not an easy language!
