About Me
I think I'm an angsty young guy just like that Holden Caulfield. I‘ll give an abstract self-introduction.

My sadness is like a film by Theo Angelopoulos: cold hues, ever-present mist, biting sea winds. It seeps into the marrow of my being, an essential atmosphere like Debussy’s Images, an indelible face, a hue I cannot erase. And yet, like Schubert’s D. 960, it slowly dissolves into a poetic flow. I have the eyes of a playwright when it comes to my sadness; like Antonioni’s deep-focus shots, I gaze at it from a distance, protecting myself through looking.

My life is set against a backdrop of sorrow and bitterness, yet its underlying tone is bright and joyful, like the sunniest of Brahms’s piano trios, especially in the hands of Pires, Dumay, and Wang Jian, who capture that sweetness amid bitterness. I will always find joy in hardship; I refuse to sink into despondency. Sometimes I feel like I am wandering alone across Eliot’s Waste Land. The usual ways people dispel loneliness, the relationships they seek for comfort, seem both tedious and futile. What eases this sadness is not escaping to another world, but discovering that others stand on the same wasteland. Better still, wisps of smoke rise in the distance. The cold morning mist lifts, and the first light filters through.

Ever again, a December night returns, fresh, pristine, seemingly promising with its beauteous harbinger of a raw and pure world covered by snow, yet as always stale. It feels like just nothing more than another déjà vu. And throughout all these years I have been simply rooted at my desk, gradually withering, with my very being fading out of me, not going anywhere, not doing anything, not standing up, not even moving a little bit, as if to keep this posture till the very end of life.

What disappears will eventually send a rumbling echo from the depths, then curve back to some height, where I will see myself facing infinity alone.

What’s wrong with discourses about the obvious is that they corrupt consciousness with their easiness, with the quickness with which they provide one with moral comfort, with the sensation of being right. ——Brosky
