Update: the airline I booked a seat 💺 on back in February isn't flying, temporarily.
The airline owner is "reorganizing" his business--that is, he is trading in his very large planes to Boeing--that use a lot more fuel, an airline's biggest expense--for smaller ones that don't use as much, & don't carry as many people.
He sent an e-mail to everyone who paid4a ticket, to say if u want your money back, let him know. If you want to fly later this year when his business is ready for "takeoff," the ticket you bought is still good. He expects to be flying again in November. So, that's where I am right now.
But by then, Madrid may have the border closed again--temporarily--when I'm ready to fly, so I may have a wait here, til border reopens.
The Covid pandemic also figures in as to when an airline can fly to a country, whether or not the border is open to the country flying in. If Covid never happened, I'd be there now.
