I love to sail forbidden seas - Herman Melville. I love literature, art, philosophy, history (especially Italian Renaissance, maritime history, Napoleonic era, French Revolution and Ancient Greece) , folk music, climbing  mountains, swimming in stupidly cold lochs. I’m a writer (currently working on my first novel with a publisher, about Druidic magic and an 2,000 yr old murder mystery, and halfway through two new ones, one set on board a warship during the Napoleonic wars and the other about Lucile and Camille Desmoulins , a romance of the French revolution.). I'm Irish, born in north Wales, now live in Edinburgh and love it . Tend to get overly enthusiastic/obsessive about history .I would love to have interesting, in depth conversations and make some friends who share some of my interests, or who would get me into some new ones. I'd like to improve my very basic Italian.

I understand why they don’t, but I love it when people have the energy to kick off a conversation with more than just  “hi”. I get hundreds of messages every week, and I'm not on here that often as I have exams coming up, so apologies if I don't spot you to respond.

It would be fantastic to learn Italian from a native speaker and maybe make myself useful teaching them English in return.
