About Me
Yes, this bio is very long.
But do you know what else is long?
The free time you have to waste. So get started and stop whining.

Greetings!

My name is Maël, your average Frenchie, meaning that I'm very good at being a drama queen and at ranting all day long. If you want to keep believing Frenchies are just like in Emily in Paris, then you should probably not talk with me.

I live in a city just next to Versailles, in the suburbs of Paris.
Being a suburber means living in this strange in-between the super urban and crowded world of Paris and the calm and the beauty of the rural world. It is not easy everyday though, because it effectively means that Parisians look down on me as a "countryside peasant", and people from the countryside hate me as "parisian asshole".
Having a confused identity is a core part of the parisian suburber life experience. But over time, you grow to embrace it and just accept that being despised still means receiving attention. And as a French person, I love receiving attention.

Anyway, who am I?
Well, I proudly present myself to you as a lazy master of procrastination, who is clumsy, careless, great at forgetting stuff and embarassing myself, awkwardly flirty, sucker for sarcasm, intrusive af, and who loves spending his time talking bullshit. I also have some qualities, but I prefer criticizing myself and receiving praises from others, rather than the opposite. So I'll let you figure them out.
I do have one big talent though, which is to talk endlessly. And this is why, while most people here struggle to write more than 50 words on their bio, my own biggest struggle is how to prevent my bio from becoming a novel.

What else? Well, it's been a while now I've been on this platform, coming back at regular intervals. I've updated this bio more times than I can count, always adding more stuff, until it had basically become unreadable, prompting me to finally find the motivation to re-write it from 0, to shorten it a bit.
I'd be lying if I said I still feel the same thrill now than I had when I first joined this platform. After probably hundreds of opened chats, the amazement of the first days slowly transforms into a routine. I'm no longer as hyped about interacting with nationalities from the other side of the world. I don't read people's profiles with the same excitement as 5 years ago. And yet, I keep coming back, because I can't shake off the idea that maybe, just maybe, the next person I message could turn out to become a really unique encounter.
Because, already, I've met some really awesome people through penpalling over the years. A few of those have become very close to me. Most remain as pleasant memories of cool conversations I had once. And even though I know that the vast majority of conversations on interpals will not last in the long term, I do appreciate them fully while they last.

So, in a way, I'm not sure whether I feel completely disillusioned and cynical about this app or optimistic and eager.
I guess it's also a bit like how growing as an adult feels like. You're struggling to keep your child soul and your idealism while the weight of responsabilities on your shoulders is trying hard to crush what's left of them. We could just let go of some the burden that crush us, slow down, and reconnect with the things that make us enjoy life. But we don't. Instead, we double down on the responsabilities we take until it becomes unhealthy. Why? Because we're idiots.
Yeah, we're all stupid, all of us. But in a way, that's comforting. You see, the whole of humanity is united in being stupid. No matter the religion, language, gender, skin color, we are all fucking disappointments. And I personally think it's both fucked up and weirdly beautiful.
That was my 2 cents philosophical moment for you.

Bottom line is, I'm a very chill and easy going person. I can talk about both the most irrelevant bullshit and the deepest personal conversations. And I specially like to make the conversation smoothly go from one to the other. I like cheap jokes and sarcasm, and I like people who don't take themselves too seriously.

So, see you soon in messages, maybe.

Also, DISCLAIMER, the fact that I have checked your profile doesn't necessarily mean that I'll message you. If you wanna make sure to talk with me, the one best way remains to message me yourself. Also, check your preferences to ensure I have the ability to message you to begin with.
Requests
I don't really have any request. Anyone can message me, I'm open to all. I don't care about your nationality, your gender, your religion, your social background. I only bear judgement on assholes, and people who dislike cheese.
Also, don't stress yourself, don't try to act perfect, don't hide your flaws. Be natural. I'm flawed, you're flawed. Let's embrace this reality and feel comfortable being ourselves.

However, do keep in mind that I'm human, and that I don't have the energy to keep dozens of conversations going. I honestly don't answer all messages, and whether I answer or not usually depends on my current mood. There is no secret formula, but I do tend to answer much more often messages that give me some substance to directly start talking about something. And I'm less likely to answer you if you're just gonna tell me "hi".
I'm honestly bored to death with small talk. I'd rather avoid it if possible. So, don't bother with politeness or anything. Just jump straight to a topic and let's vibe directly.
And, if you went through the trouble of writing me a nice message, and I didn't read it or answer it, for whatever reason, don't be affraid to poke me with another, short, message. I never get mad at someone for "double messaging" me. Because I know the frustration of spending time to write a nice message and never having it ever read.

You really should message me if:
- You're a sarcastic person and/or a bullshiting master with terrible humor
- You don't take yourself very seriously
- You think we would totally vibe based on my bio
- There's something in life you're really passionate about and you'd like to share
- You understand the difference between "how are you?" and "how are you feeling?" and are able to truly answer the latter
- You felt very comfortable while reading my profile
- You would be able to answer if I ask you "what made you want to talk with me?"

You probably shouldn't message me if:
- You have read my whole bio and still can't find anything to talk about
- You're easily offended
- You want to find a distance relationship
- You're planning on letting me carry the whole conversation
- You're a gay man trying to flirt (no problem if you're not gonna try flirting tho)
- You want me to teach you French language (we can practice tho)
- You're not willing to put a picture of yourself on your profile (I understand the cautiousness and safety online, but I'm seeking genuine connections, and I can't feel that genuineness with someone who can't show their face)
Language Exchange Requests
Little disclaimer: I have obviously a thing for greek, turkish and kazakh languages. They just sound highly attractive to me, for some reason.
Use this information wisely.

I'm currently learning greek, and struggling with it (I thought french was the only language with inconsistent spelling, god I was wrong).
Any greek person willing to help me with greek is most welcome

Aside from that, I would be up to some exchange with a spanish native to remove a bit the rust of spanish level and make my spanish roots proud again ahahah

Teach me curses in your language, I love it.
Hobbies & Interests
- Eating cheese (Why is cheese so fucking good??)
- History (the annoying history nerd on youtube comments is me)
- Language exchange (So that I can know 2-3 words in a dozen languages to show off, and people then believe I'm a super polyglot)
- Playing music (I'm sure that my neighbors hate me but they're too shy to tell me)
- Singing (Does singing casually while walking in the street makes me a weirdo?)
- Drawing (To be honest, nowadays it's mostly about drawing quick sketches, because I don't have the patience to draw nice stuff)
- Writting stuff (though I don't have any future as a writer)
- Being stupid (it's more than just a trait, it's a lifestyle)
- Balkans (biggest Balkans simp)
- Escaping reality by imagining a fictional world (even though it doesn't change the reality that I still gotta go do my errands)
- Did I mention being stupid?

Favorite Movies
I have a very hard time picking which movies are my favorite, so I'll just throw there a few that I like, so that I can make my profile look even longer. They're not even necessarily my favorite. But it's too much effort to think about which ones are my favorite, honestly

Inception
Interstellar
1917
Spirited Away
Saviour (1998)
Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis!
Favorite Books
With Fire and Sword
Musashi
The Witcher saga

Honestly, I'm no longer a big book reader, but I somehow gotta keep pretending that I'm a smart person, so I'm just remembering the last books I've read in the past few years. So that you can keep believing that I'm super knowledgeable
