What do you think of the idea that we could explain the tendency of the more and more specialising professions in society and everybody in a society trying to make a living, trying to find something he or she is good in, with scientific observation of ecosystems and so have some kind of human ecology. For example, if there is any ecological niche to live "in" for humans, the niche will get occupied with time. For example people living from collecting still recyclable material from garbage damps, collecting bottles and cans that were thrown away and bring them to bevarage shops where they get cash for them. I'm sorry I'm not very good in explaining my idea (I guess somebody else already had it,too) but I hope you understand what I mean. I mean, it would be a way of describing societies without much ideological baggage. Btw: I do find ecology interesting, history is my major and you have a great taste of series ;)
