In the commentary on the name "Hayy" in the 30th Lem'a (section), life is explained as follows:
"Life is the most important purpose of this universe, its greatest result, its brightest light, its most delicate essence, its most refined extract, its most perfect fruit, its highest perfection, its most beautiful beauty, its most beautiful adornment, its secret of unity, its bond of connection, the source of its perfections, the most marvelous being in terms of artistry and essence, a miraculous reality that transforms even the smallest creature into a universe, and through which a kind of index of the entire universe is reflected in that living being, turning that living being into a small universe with relationships to most existences. It is a miraculous creation of Divine power that enlarges a small part through life as much as a great whole, making even an individual equivalent to a universal world, and in terms of Divine Lordship, showing the universe as indivisible, unaffected by partition or division, and displaying it as a whole and universal being. It is also the brightest, most definitive, and most perfect proof that testifies to the necessary existence, unity, and oneness of the Living, Self-Sustaining Being. Among the Divine creations, it is both the most hidden and the most manifest, the most precious, the cheapest, the purest, the brightest, and the most meaningful embroidery of the Lord's artistry. It is a delicate, precious reflection of the mercy of the Merciful, which makes other existences serve it. It is a mirror that comprehensively reflects the Divine attributes. It encapsulates the manifestations of many beautiful Divine names, such as the Merciful, the Provider, the Compassionate, the Generous, and the Wise; and it follows many truths such as sustenance, wisdom, care, and mercy. It is a miraculous creation of the Divine, from which originate all senses like seeing, hearing, and feeling. Life is also a vast transformation machine in the grand factory of the universe, continuously purifying, uplifting, and illuminating, making the body, which is the dwelling place of life, a temporary guesthouse, a school, and a barracks for the particles that serve as the staff of life, enlightening and educating them. It is as if the Living, Life-Giving Being, through this life machine, softens, illuminates, and in a way, gives a form of permanence to this dark, transient, and lowly world, preparing it to transition to an everlasting world. Life's two aspects, its worldly and heavenly sides, are bright, pure, flawless, and exalted. Therefore, it is a unique creation that directly and clearly shows that it comes from the hand of Divine power without intermediaries, without veils or external causes, unlike other things. The reality of life, both outwardly and inwardly, looks toward the six pillars of faith and spiritually and implicitly proves them. That is, it powerfully testifies to the necessary existence and eternal life of the Necessary
