when I was in Russia, with my hard won Russian language, I entered to the shops, greet them (not kissing them, not hugging them, just saying 'hello'), and they answered me back, asking from which country I was, I was frustated because I thought my pronunciation was perfect .... later, I commented that to my girlfriend and she told me that as a rule, Russians do not say 'hello' when they enter a shop ...

a japanese woman told me she would never, ever be able to greet as we do,when I told her that we kiss twice (one kiss to each cheek) as a matter of introduction ...
